Hickory High School is proud to announce that we will be launching a 1:1 Chromebook Initiative at the start of classes this fall. The Chromebook initiative will include students in grades 8-12. Each student will receive a Chromebook to be used in the classroom as well as at home for educational purposes. Teachers will be using computer technology for instruction, assignments, projects, research and assessment. The purpose of this initiative is to use modern technology tools to fully engage students and create a learning environment that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity.
As part of the 1:1 Initiative, students will be charged a $50 Technology Usage Fee each year. If your child qualifies for the free/reduced lunch program, and you submit an application that is approved on or before your Chromebook Distribution Date, the fee will be reduced to $10 for those approved for free lunch per year and $20 for those approved for reduced lunch per year. For more information on the Free/Reduced Meal Program or to submit an application please visit our information page. Alternatively, you can choose to purchase the Chromebook for a discounted rate based on the grade level of the student. If you choose to purchase the Chromebook, the device becomes yours to keep should you leave the district and you are no longer responsible for paying the Technology Usage Fee each school year. For comparative purposes, retail price of the Acer C731T Chromebook at CDW.com is $269.
